The LEGEND of HELL HOUSE [1973] custom soundtrack

As requested, I present the original soundtrack for The Legend Of Hell House.

Electronic music and sound effects were created by Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson (of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop) & recorded at Hodgson's Electrophon studio in London. The soundtrack is currently unavailable commercially.

  2. Really like this one. ID3 tag for the last track isn't right though.

  3. I'm pleased you like it folks, and feel free to adjust the rogue ID3 tag if it helps you sleep better.

The last track comes from a British Horror themes compilation album, and was added to slightly increase the short length of this soundtrack.

  4. Now, I've already got a version of this, but none of the tracks had titles. Did I get that from you originally?

Excellent job & cover though! :-)

    1. It's quite possible, as I've been quietly disseminating this on a few music sharing sites over the years.

Re-watching the film last week has given me the idea to totally re-vamp this soundtrack, and go far deeper into the sonic mysteries of Hell House.
This will provide us with a much longer recording; allowing the true terror to take hold.
      Watch this space..

  7. Great delia soundtrack to a great film. love coming here checkin what treats you line up for us.
BTW do you do requests? If not tell me to sod off by all means but would love to see The Headless Eyes on here - great/odd soundtrack that one, full of fractured early drum machine & fuzz gitarre/disturbed psych tones. oh well just a thought. keep up the good work sir!

    1. Thank you, Mr Aldwych.

I'm always open to requests (both audio and physical). I have a copy of the highly unpleasant The Headless Eyes and will dig it out for a re-watch/ sonic appraisal.
My only memory of that film is one of a screaming, bearded man with his eyeballs hanging out.
Although I could be thinking of 'One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing'

  9. This is brilliant, I'm really enjoying this in the stygian gloom of our spring - maybe we could have the fuzz-gospel of 'The Fiend' next!

    1. Thank you. The stygian gloom is lovely this year.

I re-watched The Fiend a couple of weeks ago and was thinking the same thing about the fuzzy worship.
I like the lady singing about drinking Christ's blood, or maybe that's what I was doing at the time; I forget now..

Consider it done (except that I haven't done it yet).

  10. Thanks for this I never thought it'd happen! LoHH is such an underrated film and so efficiently plotted.. always reminds me of the "Late Film" that BBC1 or BBC2 would chuck on before 'Closedown' in the days when TV stopped for a few hours...

...at least until bearded fellows in orange Arrans began to explain particle physics on the Open University at 6AM.

  11. Oh My God! The soundtrack to one of my very favorite films, at last!! When Hell House was released I went to the theatre every afternoon for two weeks and watched it twice. It was on a double bill with 'Vampire Circus' (which I also grew to love). So I would see 'Hell House', watch 'Vampire Circus', and then sit through 'Hell House' once again. I love everything about this film. And the roiling, percolating electronic music helped make this film one of a kind. A genuine haunted house classic. Thank you very, very much for making this wonderful soundtrack available. 'If it had ended, we would not be here.' - B. F. Fisher

  12. Once upon a time ago I made my own version but it was vaporized on a faulty drive. But…ask Google and you shall receive. Thanks.

A pity some company hasn't released this one.
